Symphony no. 8 in E flat major (no. 5 chronologically)

~ Symphony

Annotation

There are presently NINE extant symphonies by Cipriani Potter, but some confusion exists as to the numbering of them. This is because Potter himself was known to have used multiple confusing designations.

This particular symphony in E-flat Major was written in 1828 and is Potter's 5th symphony in chronological order. However, Potter himself referred to it as No 8. In this case, the designation Symphony no. 8 in E-flat major is used since that is what was employed in the only extant recording of the work (at the time of writing).

The symphony was revised by Potter in 1846, and the slow movement entirely replaced.
