At age 91 , Pete Seeger felt his songwriting and recording
days were essentially over. For Lorre Wyatt, those days
ended prematurely in 1996 when he suffered a debilitating
stroke that took from him the ability to sing or to play
an instrument. Lorre is best known for his anthem "Samas
el Barco" ("We Are the Boat"), which has been recorded
by Pete Seeger and by other renowned artists such as
Peter Paul and Mary and Holly Near. He is also known
throughout the Hudson Valley for penning the lyrics to the
Clearwater staple "Sai ling Up, Sailing Down." Many in folk
circles have certainly wondered over the years what other
fine Lorre Wyatt songs might have been in their repertoire
had his career not been so suddenly truncated. This CD
may provide at least part of the answer.
