With the release of her debut album Based On A True Story, Lil' Mo tears it up in all departments. Her vocals are penetrating and her spirited writing dominates the album. The album features the single "If You Wanna Dance." Based On A True Story was produced by Flavahood Productions, Suga Mike, and Big Baby, who have worked with Gerald Levert and Queen Latifah among others. And the track was produced by Bryce Wilson of Groove Theory.
