Aloha From Hawaii via Satellite (50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition)

~ Release by Elvis Presley (see all versions of this release, 11 available)

Annotation

This 2023 release is a newly mastered three CD box set that includes an additional Blu-Ray disc of the previously released DVD concert for the first time on Blu-Ray.

From the liner notes, this 50th anniversary deluxe edition was prepared by Archival producer Ernst Mikael Jørgensen and newly mixed and mastered by recording engineer Matt-Ross Sprang from original 16-track live recording tapes at 192 KHz / 24-bit, although it is downsampled to regular CD quality (44.1 kHz / 16-bit) for this release.

The included Blu-Ray has remastered video and audio that is a slight but worthwhile improvement over the prior DVD release, including a 1080p video that is sharper and has a more natural color balance over the old 480i presentation, although this is mostly only noticeable in the close-up shots of Elvis. It also has lossless 2.0 and 5.1 PCM audio tracks at 48 kHz / 16-bit and a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track at 48 kHz / 640 kbps, versus the DVD's original lossy Dolby Digital 2.0 at 48 kHz / 192 kbps and Dolby Digital 5.1 48 kHz / 448 kbps audio tracks. Neither the DVD or the Blu-Ray are subtitled.

This set does not include the NBC television special (01:16:44) shown a few months after the live broadcast or the 17 minutes of 'Elvis Arrives' footage where Elvis greets fans after landing in Hawaii that is included on the 2004 DVD deluxe edition release.

Higher resolution audio at 96kHz / 24bit is available for purchase and download at HDTracks.
